Functional Training
I just finished customizing my blog last night so I figured I should put up my first post after I went to the gym today. I’m currently using a Dynamic Plateau Training workout that I set up and things are going well so far. One of the exercises that I did in my workout today made me wonder how many people out there actually use functional training. Do any of you use functional training in your workouts?
I love the natural feel of the movements when you’re doing such exercises and I feel like I have less of a risk for injury. I do a few different functional exercises but the one I want to focus on today is Squatting Cable Rows or squat to cable rows, because I happened to do 6 sets of them earlier.
Plenty of people do squats and see great benefits from them. There’s also a great number of people who do seated cable rows. But how many people do you see doing squatting cable rows? Do you even know what they are? (If you don’t, then you can click the link above to learn the movement.) This exercise combines the squat and the row to give you a great total body exercise in half the time. The movement feels really smooth to me and, because I’m working my whole body with one exercise, my workout can be a little shorter.
If you haven’t tried out functional training then I recommend reading up on it and testing out the exercises for yourself. If you already use some type of functional training, let me know; I love learning about new exercises to add to my arsenal. Hope your workouts are going well.
