There Are NO Magic Pills

17 January 2009 | General Fitness

There are so many products out there that claim to be a “magic pill”  or special fruit drink that will solve a fitness problem you have or some new fitness equipment that will be all you need to get the body you want.  Advertisers know that this is what the majority of people out there want.  People want to be able to do something simple to attain whatever results they want.  The problem is, you’ve already been told a number of times the only true way to get the body you want.

We just don’t like it because it requires work and it requires that you keep at it, otherwise you’ll lose your results.  If you want to stay healthy and have a nice body then you have to stay active and you have to eat well.  That’s it!  It really is that simple.

Take a look at your daily life and ask yourself if you’re really that active.  There are many many things out there that require little to no energy to do.  And guess what?  They’re usually pretty fun.  So we get hooked into sitting around and not really being active because it actually is enjoyable.  And most of the time there’s probably food within an arm’s length or a few steps.  It is VERY easy to be out of shape these days.

But getting fit doesn’t have to be hard or boring.  You can do so many different things to be active.  There’s team sports, extreme sports, hiking, walking, swimming, cycling, lifting weights, martial arts, aerobics, yoga, pilates and the list goes on.  You can even go outside and play catch for a while and that’s still going to make a difference.  And you can get really creative in the kitchen.  I personally love to cook and come up with new healthy meals.  Believe me, after you start eating healthier, you’re going to feel a change in your energy levels and in the overall health of your body.

If you want to lose weight then you’re going to have to change your eating habits.  You’ll want to eat smaller meals throughout the day and make sure that you’re picking healthy foods to eat.  You may also want to do some kind of fast paced workout a few times a week.  That doesn’t mean that you have to hop on a treadmill; you can play basketball or play a game of ultimate Frisbee if you want.  If you want to increase your strength and pack on muscle then you’ll need to start eating more and you’ll have to start doing some kind of workout to stress your muscles.  It can be anything that has a workload that your muscles aren’t use to.

It really isn’t that hard, but I know the magic pills, fruity drinks and the miracle equipment sound so much more appealing sometimes.  If only they truly worked WITHOUT having to exercise and eat healthy.  Don’t fall for the gimmicks.  In order to see real results with any diet pill, supplement or fitness equipment you’ll have to exercise consistantly and you’ll have to watch how you eat.
