Combining Exercises for a Full Body Workout

28 January 2009 | Strength Exercises

As I was doing my workout earlier today I was curious as to how many people have combined exercises to save time and work their whole body harder.  I’m sure that you’ve already heard a number of times that you should be doing compound movements and exercises, like squats.  A compound exercise will work more than one muscle group at the same time to complete the movement.  That way you can get a better workout in less time compared to a workout full of isolation exercises.  And compound movements feel more natural to me.

I take things one step further and take a compound exercise like the front squat and add in a push press at the end of each rep.  A front squat push press is a great “combination exercise” that really works your whole body in a short amount of time.  I did front squat push presses for 6 sets of 5 earlier today and that’s what made me curious, so I thought I’d ask you:  Are you using any combination exercises in your workouts?

If you love to challenge yourself and don’t have a lot of time to workout then you may want to look into exercises like this.  There are a ton of different variations out there but I thought I’d get you started in the right direction with the exercise that I did today.  After you do a few sets of front squat push presses you’ll realize that you don’t have to workout really long in order to work your body hard.
